Aluminum Sheaves

Bear Equipment manufactures sheaves out of a wide range of materials, including aluminum.

Aluminum sheaves provide a lightweight and corrosion-resistant option for light-duty applications.

The fabrication process starts with cutting aluminum roundbar into sheave blanks.

The blanks are then placed in our CNC lathe to be precision machined to the desired profile and bore dimensions.

With aluminum being a softer material, some special machining considerations must be taken.

To not mark or damage the outer diameter of the sheave during machining, Bear Equipment uses pie jaws in the lathe chuck.

These jaws are machined to the correct diameter so that the pressure of the chuck is distributed evenly over the outer diameter of the sheave.

This allows the aluminum sheave to be held securely without any marking or deformation to the outer diameter.
