Aluminum Sheave Snatch Blocks

Bear Equipment manufactures custom snatch blocks to the exact application needs and specifications of our customers.

A customer needed to improve on existing snatch blocks that they had been using previously. They sent in the existing blocks to Bear Equipment for our engineering team to evaluate and improve the design. These snatch blocks have a mix of features to meet the customer’s unique requirements.

1. Aluminum Sheaves: Precision-machined from aluminum sheave blanks to reduce the overall weight of the block and to be corrosion-resistant.
2. Ball Bearings: Sealed for maintenance-free smooth operation.
3. Shaft Adapters: Machined shaft adapter bushings to allow the shaft to be a standard bolt.
4.  Stainless Steel Side Frames: Original customer block had aluminum side frames which had some durability issues. Bear went with stainless steel side frames to provide additional strength while still maintaining the corrosion-resistant requirement.
5. Tie Back Plate: The sheave includes an additional plate that would allow the installation of a shackle to add another part to the rigging setup. For more information on line parts using blocks, check out our Resources section of our website.
6. Laser Etched Identification: The pertinent information about the snatch blocks is laser etched into the stainless steel side frames.

Bear Equipment tested the snatch blocks to the proof load prior to shipping out to the customer. Utilizing a manual winch and a 2 part line, 6,000 lbs of tension was applied to the rope, which resulted in a 12,000 lbs force on the block shackle.

A load cell was installed into the rigging setup to accurately measure the line tension.
